Juice: A National Brand?
In a presentation given at a conference in New York
City on 10 June 2008, Jambas CEO, Paul Clayton,
announced that his companys leadership status
is translated by a 19% share of the US market. The company
is well ahead of its closest competitors, as Freshens
caters for 6% of the market, and Smoothie King and Planet
Smoothie for 5% and 1% respectively, he added.

Fruz Signs Master Franchis Agreement
The company has granted exclusive development rights
to Frozen Guy LLC for all of south Florida below the
Tampa-St. Petersburg area, including Palm Beach, Broward
and Miami-Dade counties. The company also has
master franchise agreements in the Chicago, San Francisco
and Los Angeles metropolitan areas, with the first two
stores opened this past month in suburban Chicagos

Pomegranate
juice could help fight arthritis
Studies have shown that extracts of the fruit can reduce
inflammation in the body, one of the most common triggers
of the disease.The team behind the study, published
in the Journal of Inflammation, believe that pomegranate
could have the same effect on humans. If true, it could
point the way to a new treatment which could avoid the
side effects of current anti-inflammatory drugs, which
can include nausea and bleeding in the stomach.

Shifting Beverage Focus
Limited-service restaurants, in the aggregate, have
reduced the number of beverage items on their menus
compared to the prior year, reports foodservice consultants
Technomic in the new Beverage Consumer Trend Report.
The greatest drop occurred in customized beverages like
specialty coffees, teas, and smoothies. At the same
time, there has been a corresponding increase in limited-time
only (LTO) beverages.
