Barbara Valentino, marketing director for Tropical Smoothie,
said this was the first year the business partnered
with Camp Sunshine to raise money for campers. The eight
Orlando-area stores, including ones in Oviedo, Winter
Park, Orlando and Lake Mary, raised $10,329 for Camp
Sunshine. Nationally, the fundraiser brought in $125,000,
Valentino said.

Study:
Grapefruit pulp may boost bone health
The pulp of grapefruit may improve bone health and reduce
the risk of developing osteoporosis, according to a
new study with male rats.
Consumption of the red grapefruit pulp led to a slow
down in bone resorption, and an increase in bone mineral
build-up and calcium absorption, according to researchers
from Texas A&M University.
McDonald's
May Take Heat For Beverage Program
Investors may find out this week whether McDonald's
Corp.'s push into espresso drinks is losing its buzz.
On Wednesday, the Golden Arches plans to report second-quarter
earnings. Executives should explain how they are mitigating
high ingredients costs and whether $4-a-gallon gas is
causing people to cut back on Big Macs and french fries.
This could spell trouble for smoothies, which the
company is currently testing.
Kick
Backs and Subsidies Won't Work for Biofuels
Massive government subsidies for biofuels are not helping
to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to an
OECD report released Wednesday. The U.S., EU and
Canada spent €11 billion (US$17.6 billion) in public
money to support energy crops in 2006 and will
more than double that over the next 10 years, according
to estimates by the Paris-based Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development.
